Friction Faith
Things that make your face smile Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

Things that make your heart hum a happy tune Interesting don’t you think that Christ’s life on earth was not heavenly. Yet we find ourselves out of sorts and unhappy when life is not going in a way that pleases our every emotion. As a believer in Christ Jesus we say we want to be like Him. Very interesting! Our Pastor George used an illustration that I found eases my daily tension. He said if we could put our problems in a pot and take care of the ones on top the bottom ones would keep raising to take the place of the one you just cleared away. So I’ve got an endless supply of problems. Why is it most of us can not get as excited about that as we do the endless fries at the Red Robin restaurant? I’m working on an attitude change. Hello you big beautiful pot of problems – what wonderful morsel do you have for me to work on today? Please! It’s a start.
An old Chinese proverb says, “A gem cannot be polished without friction, nor a person perfected without trials. I read numerous Scripture verses that reiterate that position. I have seen this truth in my own suffering. Each time I stumbled or fell or was wounded by others it did not break me, but lead me to refine my walk with the Lord. As I faced my own sins, pain or fears I learned what my weaknesses were -- allowing me to put up more strict boundaries; saying no rather than yes to actions and words that were displeasing to God.
Holding on to guilt or pain is a ‘self-poisoner’. Letting go and letting the Lord’s merciful grace and love heal me and teach me and guide me gently into His image is a choice I alone can make. I’ve got a pot full of endless problems (I’ve got life) and how I handle each one of them teaches me to die to self and grow in relationship with Jesus. Now that’s friction faith!
Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. ~ Psalm 34:11 |
